Sometimes, the right opportunity finds you.
That’s exactly what happened when I received a request to decorate the exhibition booth of Sentro Akseso Bonaire for the annual FredExpo Job Fair in Rotterdam.

FredExpo is much more than a career event; it’s a bridge between the islands and the diaspora.
It connects young professionals from Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao living in the Netherlands with employers and organizations back home that are actively seeking local talent.
The mission is simple but powerful: to bring our people home; to give back, grow, and build the future of our islands together.

And that’s how Akseso Meets PinkDo came to life, a project filled with collaboration, creativity, and Caribbean pride.

About a month before the event, we started shaping Akseso’s vision for the booth.
They wanted something that felt fun, warm, and professional, and that’s exactly what PinkDo set out to create.

I designed the look and feel, curated the mood board, and coordinated the entire setup in collaboration with Ure Own Customized.
Together, we took care of the balloon decorations, branding, and even the Antillean snack boxes that brought a taste of home to Rotterdam.

Just a few days before the event, some of Akseso’s printed materials didn’t arrive in time from Bonaire.
Without hesitation, PinkDo stepped in, managing urgent printing and delivery of new flyers and business cards here in the Netherlands.

That was one of those moments where I proved to myself again:
I really am the “regel-tante” who gets things done.

On the 17th of October, the WTC Rotterdam was buzzing with Caribbean energy.

Students, young professionals, and employers from all over gathered for FredExpo 2025.

The atmosphere? Hopi gezellig, vibrant, and emotional.
I kept running into familiar faces, people I went to school with, colleagues from the islands, even friends from kindergarten.

There was laughter, conversation, and that unmistakable sense of belonging that only islanders can bring into a room.

At the Sentro Akseso stand, the team of six representatives spent the day engaging with visitors, explaining their mission, and connecting with those considering a return to Bonaire.
Meanwhile, I floated around networking and soaking up the energy of the day.

And just when I thought the day couldn’t get more memorable, during the teardown, a stranger approached and asked if he could help pop the balloons.
When we finished, he smiled and said, “Thanks to you, I reconnected with my inner child.”
That moment touched me deeply. Because sometimes, the simplest things can leave the biggest impact.

After the fair, Akseso had leftover promotional materials that didn’t fit in their luggage for the return flight.
Luckily, shipping to the islands is something I know well, so I packed everything safely in my car and arranged for it to be shipped to Bonaire the following Monday.

Even during the breakdown, teamwork was everywhere: an Akseso staff member even helped me carry boxes to my car.
Small gestures, big meaning.

Reflections: More Than Just an Event

FredExpo 2025 was a reminder of how powerful community and collaboration can be.
It wasn’t just about business. It was about belonging, representation, and connecting to our roots.

This experience showed me that I can pull off big projects with heart and structure, even when “pink” isn’t in the color palette.
Because everything I do, I do it with a pink heart.

A heartfelt masha danki (thank you) to Maidy and Desirée from Sentro Akseso, and to Tristan and Quincy for creating a platform that truly brings our people together.
It was an honor to be part of something bigger than just a booth; it was a celebration of identity, connection, and pride.
