I’ll be the first to admit, when I was asked to give a presentation, my first reaction was “Eheh, net ami? Why me?” 😅
It’s been years since I stood in front of a group to speak. And suddenly here I was, asked to represent StarMFC and talk about administration and bookkeeping to a room full of future lash entrepreneurs. I had one thought: “You suuuure I’m the right person to do this?”
The Setting
The course took place in a cozy business building in Rotterdam, which was set in a professional setup but still felt warm and inviting. JD had arranged everything perfectly: a big TV for my slideshow, comfy chairs, even a sofa so everyone could choose where to sit.
And of course… everything was pink. Roze borstel, roze tasjes, oef I felt right at home in her lash world!
JD’s organization was on point, down to the smallest details. You could feel the passion behind everything.
The Presentation: Business Meets Beauty
I represented StarMFC and gave a talk full of practical knowledge:
KVK registration, the KOR-regeling, business bank accounts, bookkeeping basics, and how StarMFC can support entrepreneurs with all of this.
But my favorite part? Let's start from the beginning, from scratch. Helping others think about their business name, their brand, and their why. That creative process, before you even register at the KVK, that’s where the fun begins.
The students were super engaged, asking questions and sharing experiences. At one point, I thought, “Yes, they’re really getting it!”
Behind the Scenes
I prepared everything: my slideshow in Canva, my notes in Word, and, of course, my handwritten scribbles too. Give me my pen and schrift any day! Old school, but it works.
Right before I started speaking, I was nervous. I told myself, “Please don’t f* this up. You’re not even here for PinkDo. Don’t mess it up for StarMFC.”
But once I started, something clicked. The Toastmasters in me woke up. I paused when I needed to, made eye contact, and it just flowed.

If Jelmar, Gino, Lynke, Guiselle, Lyan, and all my fellow Toastmasters* could have seen me, I know they’d be proud. It felt like coming home. That inner speaker was still in me all along, just waiting for her moment.
By the end, I confessed to the class that I’d been nervous at first. Their reaction? Total shock. They couldn’t believe it. They said everything was clear, easy to follow, and full of value. That was the best compliment ever.
*Toastmasters is an international organization that helps people develop their public speaking and leadership skills.
Learning, Networking, and Growing
After my session, I stayed for the rest of the course. I got to attend a presentation by @iamkiak, who talked about social media and content creation. It was pure value, even for me, now that I’m back to showing more of what I do on @pinkdo.nl.
I realized that I love being part of spaces like this, where business and beauty meet, where women empower each other, and where everything (literally) is pink.
I want to raise a virtual glass to StarMFC and LashMeByJD, cheers to many more collaborations and empowering events together.
And to all the amazing cursisten: congratulations on completing your course. You’re not just lash artists, you’re entrepreneurs now. Go chase those dreams.
This experience taught me to believe in myself again. It reminded me that speaking, teaching, and connecting are all still part of who I am. As long as I know my topic, I’ll stand tall and speak with confidence, whether it’s for PinkDo or StarMFC.
